Arc fault is a very serious fault in power system. The disruptive effects of an arc flash event can result in severe operator injury, costly equipment damage, and long interruptions.
ABB provides active arc fault protection solutions to detect and eliminate arc faults, which can reduce these consequences. An inner arc can be detected within 1.5 ms and eliminated in less than 4 ms after detection. This can greatly improve the safety and availability of the power system. Running the network with traditional solutions of 80 - 100 ms can lead to cable fires and copper and steel melts.
